Demonstration Alert: Niamey (Niger), There is a Call for a Demonstration Saturday, April 13, at 8:30 a.m. at the Place de Concertation (National Assembly)

Event:

There is a call for a demonstration Saturday, April 13, at 8:30 a.m. at the Place de Concertation (National Assembly) to protest the presence of the U.S. military and other foreign armed forces in Niger. The demonstration is expected to be peaceful. Travel to the downtown area should be avoided Saturday morning through 1:00 p.m. The City of Niamey announced that police will close Rue de Ambassade from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and only Embassy employees and residents of Koura Kana will be authorized to pass.

U.S. citizens are advised to limit unnecessary movements around Niamey. Standard guidance remains: If you see a protest anywhere, move away from it. Do not attempt to drive or walk through protestors. If you get caught in a protest and are unable to leave, remain calm and find a place to shelter in place.
